How Do I Know I Need Garage Door Panel Replacement?

When you look at your garage door, do you see any dents? A major dent means that your panel will need professional replacement.

Panels are designed to be tough. They have strong durable materials that prevent many problems from occurring. Despite this, they are susceptible to dents and damage.

Can you buy replacement panels for a garage door?

You can absolutely buy replacement panels for a garage door - in fact, many companies that sell garage doors also sell replacement panels. That said, depending on the type of garage door you have, it may be easier (and cheaper) to simply replace the entire door.

For instance, if your garage door is made up of several panels, and only one or two of them are damaged, it may make more sense to just replace those individual panels. On the other hand, if your garage door is a single panel that's been damaged beyond repair, then it will probably be less expensive to just buy a new one.

Can you replace just a section of a garage door?

Yes, it is possible to replace just a section of your garage door. This can be done by removing the damaged panel and replacing it with a new one. The process is relatively simple and does not require any special tools or skills.

However, it is important to note that garage door panels are not all created equal. Some are made of different materials than others and some are designed for specific types of doors. As such, it is important to consult with a professional before attempting to repair your garage door yourself.

What can damage the panels on a garage door?

Garage door panels can sustain damage from various sources, including impacts from vehicles, bicycles, or heavy objects. Harsh weather conditions like hailstorms, strong winds, or extreme temperatures may cause dents, cracks, or warping. Accidental collisions during opening or closing, as well as improper maintenance leading to rust or corrosion, can also harm the panels. Regular inspection, prompt repairs, and cautious usage help mitigate potential damage, prolonging the lifespan of your garage door panels.

Some garage door panels are made of wood which over time will rot from age and weather exposure. These doors are even more prone to panel repair and replacement. Another common material used to make panels is metal. Metal can weaken over time. It can also turn rusty and unsightly.

Our technicians will attempt to repair most broken panels. If the panel cannot be repaired the next option is replacement. Your technician will advise you on what steps to take to repair or replace your garage door panels.

Different Materials, Different Designs

Garage doors come in three ways - stock, semi-custom and custom.

Stock doors are available in many designs without glass. Semi-custom doors provide more options and you can choose from different panel styles and designs.

Wooden doors are designed for two car garages and made of pressed wood or Masonite. This kind of door is ready to paint.

Had a great experience, the technician was very nice and clearly knew his stuff. Worked quickly and efficiently. Even helped me set up my app and first remote quick. He staples the lines nice and square as well while also helping with nice temporary placement of wall mounted buttons until I can run that wire up in the garage attic. Would have been nice if they ran the wires for me but that’s not really a reasonable thing to expect since it would double the labor time. 5/5 thanks!

I needed a repair after 5 pm. I reached out to All American and as promised, they got back to me within 10 minutes. They provided pricing on the trip charge, helping me to decide to have them come out the same day (vs the next day). Our repair technician, Phil, arrived and worked with us to make sure we clearly understood our options. He repaired the door and replaced some parts to ensure the door would work until we can do a full replacement in the future. Following his repair the door worked better and ran quieter than it ever has! He was really fast, professional, and nice. I highly recommend the company.
