What Are Common Garage Door Opener Problems?
When your opener is broken, nothing will happen after the button is pressed. There are simple tasks you can carry out on your own to try to solve this common problem.
Low Remote Battery
First, inspect the car remote. Usually, the device will not operate when the batteries are low. Many remotes will blink whenever there are technical issues.
Wall Unit Problems
Most homeowners have wall unit problems when the remote has no issues. This particular problem involves the power source. Most openers operate using batteries. However, other units function by using the home’s electrical wiring or a wall outlet. Usually, if the unit operates using batteries, the batteries must be replaced. If the device uses the home’s electrical wiring, professional services will be needed because electrical issues are risky. There may be scorched or broken wires near the unit.
Electrical Issues
If the problem is a major electrical issue, the fuse box must be inspected. There may be a tripped breaker, and it will need to be reset. In some cases, the fuse may need to be replaced. One of the first things we will do is inspect the breaker. If the breaker has no issues, we will turn it off. Once the breaker is off, we will wait a few seconds before turning the breaker back on again. If the wiring is damaged, we will handle the repairs using the safest procedures.
Broken Sensor
Many of the newest garage door openers have safety sensors. In some cases, the safety sensors can cause operational problems. There may be something blocking the sensors, so inspecting the area around the garage is recommended.
What are the Benefits Of MyQ Technology?
MyQ technology on garage door openers offers significant benefits because you can access your door from various locations. This is possible because the technology works on smartphones and other mobile devices, so you can control your garage door from any location. You won’t have to worry about forgetting to close your garage door before you left the driveway.
Types Of Openers
The most common opener types are chain-driven and belt-driven devices.
- A garage door opener that is chain-driven uses a bicycle chain. It moves a trolley on a metal bar. We should note that this particular make will create a lot of noise if the garage is located under a bedroom.
- A belt-driven opener functions similarly to a chain-driven device. The belts are made of either polyurethane, fiberglass or steel-reinforced rubber.
- A jackshaft opener is another option to consider. It mounts on the wall near the garage door. This type of opener is recommended for garages that have low or high ceilings.
